While there are tons of great social games on Facebook, PetVille is one that any age of gamer can play. It's a cute little game that offers a bit of fun for even those younger gamers who play on Facebook and give you a way to pass the time by taking care of your own little pet. Although the game is fun to play, older gamers might get a bit bored with it after a little while of playing. Want to know what you're in for before you head over to PetVille? Here's your in-depth look at this little social game on Facebook.
Goal: The goal of PetVille is like any other Facebook game out there - level up to the highest level. But, it does seem that like other Facebook games, there are some other smaller goals to accomplish as well. While most of these consist of gathering up accomplishments for buying things, cleaning your house a certain number of times, and so forth, there are new goals that revolve around building your backyard (those that play YoVille will be extremely familiar with PetVille). Although PetVille seems to have a pretty good fan base, it doesn't seem that there are nearly as many goals in the game as there are in other Zynga games - like FarmVille and Cafe World. The goals that are there are fun, but a little cheesy and seem to be meant for more younger players. Overall, the goals of PetVille get a 6 out of 10 as there could be more to strive for instead of simple decorating and cleaning up.
Game Play: To start out in PetVille, you will design your own pet. This means that everything from the color of their fur down to their ears. The character creation in PetVille is by far excellent - way past other Facebook games. But, there really is not much to the game play in terms of action. Basically, you keep up with your pet by keeping him/her clean, decorating their home, visiting friends, building your yard, and so on. While the game play is quite simple, there is a lot that you can do. There are plenty of places to shop, different rooms to furnish, clothing to buy - which does take away from the monotony of the game overall. You can also visit your neighbor's pets and play as well as help them clean up, and help them take baths. There is also several other areas of the game that you can play in, such as a game area, a makeover area where you can change up your pet's look, as well as a car dealership, the bank, and even a new outdoors shop. So, you won't have a shortage of things that you can do in PetVille. But, older gamers will find that there is not a lot of action to be had, and may get bored with this Facebook game really quickly. Younger gamers will like PetVille more than older gamers as it allows them freedom to totally create a unique pet and take care of it. Overall, the game play in PetVille gets a 7 out of 10.
Graphics: The graphics are very cute. The pets all have huge heads and tiny bodies, are all extremely colorful and funny, and bounce around the house while you're cleaning or taking care of it. The furniture and other items in your pet's home are also very detailed and fun to place all around. While the detail is very well done, PetVille does have extremely large, cartoon graphics that are more geared toward younger gamers. The colors are all very bright and fun, which does add to the overall score on the graphics which is a good 9 out of 10.
Sound: The sounds in PetVille are yet another area where you will easily be reminded of kid's cartoons. Just the music will remind you of a child's cartoon on a Saturday morning, and have you wishing that you hadn't even turned the sounds on after a minute or two. However, the other sounds in the game are a bit better, with your pet walking, poking the screen when you don't pay attention to it for a little while, and the birds singing outside. All of the smaller sounds make up for the music a bit, but they are still not something that you would want to listen to all the time. Overall, the sounds and music get a 6 out of 10.
Special Items: One of the best things about PetVille is that there are tons of special items that you can buy. The catch is that you have to buy PetVille Cash to get them, but you can really outfit your pet's house, their clothing, buy cars for them, and so much more. There really is no way to describe all of the special items that you'll find in PetVille, it's just amazing. The developers have even added in a new section that is just for outside play items and decorations for the new yards that PetVille has added in - which is really cool. So, not only can you outfit your pet so that it's the coolest pet around, but you can really deck out it's house and yard as well. The special items in PetVille get a solid 9 out of 10 as there are just too many to mention.
Overall, while PetVille seems to be more of a kid's Facebook game, it's still a fun social game for any age of gamer. There is enough to do to keep you occupied, but it's not any type of serious action for those older gamers that are looking for some good fighting games or those that have tons of action packed adventures. But, if you are looking for a great family social game, or a Facebook game that your kids can play without worrying about what they'll see, PetVille is a great game for them to try out.
