While some Facebook games are starting to revolve around island themes, Tiki Farm combines both an island themed game with a farming game. So how does that work out for gamers and did the developers really take the time to do this social game right so that it will grab new gamers and keep them playing? We'll take an in-depth look at Tiki Farm and see what it offers to Facebook gamers and those that love their farming games.
Goal: Your goal in Tiki Farm is to level your island by farming and buying items that will provide you with experience points. While this is just like every other Facebook game out there, Tiki Farm does a decent job of providing you with some smaller goals to work for as well. In the Achievements tab on Tiki Farm, you'll find a list of smaller goals that you can work for, each with four different levels. Some of these include the Busy Harvester, the Moku Banker, the Shopmaniac, and the Tiki Tender. All offer special bonuses that you can earn when you complete one of these levels and give you something else to work for as you farm your island. This is an excellent move over some of the other island themed games out there, as many do not offer anything like this. So, Tiki Farm gets a 9 out of 10 in the goals area.
Game Play: The game play in Tiki Farm is also a lot better than some of the other island themed farming games that are popping up on Facebook right now as well. When you first log into Tiki Farm, you might not see it, but as you go along you'll notice some big differences in other island themed games out there. For example, you'll start out with enough Tiki Gems to buy a nice fountain or something cool for your island, you'll also be able to plant several different types of crops. The problem with the crops is that you can't just plant until you run out of money - which is bad for those that want to earn money quickly. But, you get tons of experience points for farming because there are several different steps to it: plowing, planting, keeping bugs off, watering, and harvesting. You'll also be able to harvest trees as well, although they are longer, to add to your income. You can also explore your island and your neighbor's islands to pick up trash and other items that will give you experience points as well.
The game play overall in Tiki Farm is by far better than some of the other island farming games that Facebook has come out with recently. There is enough to keep new gamers interested and playing for a while - which is another nice change. The developers did a great job with creating this little social game so that it will last a bit longer than several of the other social games that are out there. For those that are looking for a change up to the normal farming games that you'll find on Facebook, try out Tiki Farm. Overall, the game play for Tiki Farm gets a 9 out of 10 as well.
Graphics: The graphics in Tiki Farm aren't quite as sharp as you would expect, but it works well for this little island themed game. For example, you will notice that the water and sand are pretty softly drawn and the trees and other areas of the game aren't quite as sharp on the detail as some other games are. But Tiki Farm makes up for it with color as the way that the trees and other items are colored creates a unique look for the game overall - and it works really well. The little characters that you have also have really good detail and creation abilities, which is a nice change too from other island themed games out there on Facebook right now. So, overall the graphics in Tiki Farm get an 8 out of 10.
Sound: While they are not the very best music and sounds on a social game out right now, they are not the worst either. The music is a video game type of reggae that is softened down a bit, and the sounds are basically normal beach sounds. You'll hear the waves crashing, birds singing, and footsteps when your character walks. When you sell something, you'll hear coins jingling. When you click on something that you can't do or can't move at that time, you'll here a weird little sound that resembles a "no no". Overall, they're pretty cute and get a 7 out of 10.
Special Items: This is one area of Tiki Farm where there could be a bit more. While there are plenty of items in the game, there aren't a lot of special items available for either purchase with real money or with shells in the game. The developers could place in a few more to draw in some more cash, or they could add in more items that lower level players can purchase without spending everything they own. Overall this area of Tiki Farm gets a 6 out of 10.
Overall, for those that love island themed games or farming games, Tiki Farm is a great one to check out. Everything about it is very well done, and it's a great game for any age of gamer. The social aspect that you love about Facebook games is there too - as you have to add neighbors to get extra plots to plow and reach certain achievements. Plus, you can use them to help up your experience points on a daily basis. So, if you haven't tried out Tiki Farm, it is a great little game to check out when you're ready for something different - but watch out for that volcano on your island...
