There are plenty of island themed games on Facebook right now, they seem to be popping up everywhere you look. For those that love building games, such as My Town, you might be longing for a good island themed game that revolves around building instead of farming. Tiki Resort is one of those great building games that many social gamer don't know is around. We'll take a look into this great little island themed game and let you know exactly why it's such a great one to check out.
Goal: There are several goals to Tiki Resort, and the main one is to level up your island so that you can purchase better items. While there is no special area where you can look up some of the smaller goals, you'll find them out as you play the game since bonuses will pop up every now and then for you to share with friends and neighbors. Also, you can visit your neighbors to get special experience points and shells for your island. The developers could put in an area where you can see smaller goals to work on, which is really the only thing that drags this part of the game down. Overall, the goals of Tiki Resort get a 7 out of 10.
Game Play: In Tiki Resort, you will find that the game play is excellent and actually fast paced so that you can play and actually get somewhere while you're doing it. This is a nice change up from other building games and especially from some of the island themed games that deal with farming on Facebook. The game play revolves around two different areas: purchasing and building things on your island and keeping your tourists happy. When it comes to building up your island, you will find that there are several different buildings, trees, decorations, and specialty items that you can get for your resort. The buildings will all bank you shells as your tourists will spend their money there when they are on your island. So, you want to make sure that you have plenty of them on your island so that you'll get more and more shells. The good thing is that most of the lower level ones will put out your shells pretty quickly, so you can actually sit and take care of your tourists and wait for your buildings to be ready to collect.
The other part of the game play involves keeping your tourists happy. They will walk around your island and you will notice little icons popping up above their heads. You simply click on the icon and you can give them the item that they are wanting to keep them happy. Now, you have to have certain buildings on your island that produce the items they want or they'll just get cranky and you'll lose some shells. They'll also throw trash on the ground (banana peels, ice cream, cups) that you'll have to pick up. Everything that you do with the tourists on your island gives you plenty of experience points and will help you to level up faster.
Another great perk is that you can upgrade your island when you get a certain amount of money and a certain level. This is an excellent addition to any island building game, as it helps you to grow your resort and game so you aren't simply stuck in one place. Overall, the game play in Tiki Resort is excellent and by far much better than the other island building games that are out there. It gets a solid 10 out of 10.
Graphics: The graphics on Tiki Resort actually resemble Island Paradise in a lot of ways. They are pretty detailed when you zoom in, but the lines are a bit softer overall instead of providing a razor sharp feel. The coloring is nice and bright, and all of the people, buildings, trees, flowers, and other decorations are very well put together. You will also notice that the water, sand, and volcano on your island are also pretty well done, but with softer lines as well. The graphics are good, however and you won't be disappointed at all. The graphics in Tiki Resort get a solid 8 out of 10.
Sound: Unfortunately, the sounds and music in Tiki Resort could have been a little better. While they are quite good, they just seem to mimic all of the other island themed games out there and don't really provide anything new or exciting. The music is an island-themed mix of different reggae sounds, and the overall sounds for the game are a mix of the waves, birds, and people snapping photos. The developers could have easily put in a little more to create something truly unique. The sounds and music in Tiki Resort get a 6 out of 10.
Special Items: Here is another area of the game that could have been a little bit better if the developers would add in some more specialty items. While there are a few, there aren't nearly as many as gamers might expect. Yes, there are plenty of different items and decorations that you'll want on your island - but some gamers love the specialty items and there are just not enough here in Tiki Resort. This area could easily be pumped up a bit, but right now, it gets a 7 out of 10.
Overall, if you haven't tried out Tiki Resort, you really need to. It is one cute little building game that any social gamer will love - especially since you can visit other neighbor's resort islands and gain experience and shells as well as see how they have their island paradise laid out.
